    1. 我覺得柔性字眼比較容易推動
    2. 讓消費者知道這是一個「選擇」的問題，你可以有網路自主權。
  • 目標：16-25 學生族群。理由：
    1. 佔上網人口一半
    2. 大多掌管家中電腦使用上的決定權
    3. 我比較瞭解學生族群 (這是個理由，先找瞭解的下手)
    4. 新資訊接受度較高

其實協助這個社群發展，我真的學到很多東西哩... 也謝謝一大堆人不斷給我指教。

• piaip: 這個一定要謝一下的啊... 特別是從你那邊學到很多技術上跟思維上的東西
• Daniel: 告訴我很多 mozilla.org 的經驗，協助推動中文社群的發展，也順便推了我一把讓我拿了 mozilla.org 的 CVS 修改權。
• 討論區的各板主: 大家都很有心哩.... 而且我很多技術性的東西都從你們回答人家的文章中學來的。
• sanopup: 跟你和 Daniel 常常討論翻譯的東西，讓我這個半路出家的人有不少領悟。雖然我們三個都不是專精這方面啦，不過有討論就有進步，感覺也很好。
• ant: 哈哈，我知道你常常逛我的 blog... 只有你會用英文留言 =.= 雖然你的口氣稱不上「和藹可親」，不過謝謝你給我很多指教，而且我覺得在思維上我得跟你多學學。

Marketing 筆記區

• Give me Firefox, or give me death: 很有趣的手法，有趣到連我都捐了，天啊。
  • 第二次再來，會成功嗎？
    • 我想第二次還可能會，但後面的很難講。現在 Mozilla Europe 也開始徵召了，至少我不會捐。
    • 在台灣呢？量力而為吧，我不覺得現在是個好時機。
• The Mozilla Foundation: Going Public: 很多需要思量的問題，我覺得有志推廣者都應該看一看。
  • Firefox 不是高手的玩具，也不應該當高手的玩具。
    • Apache 市場佔有率最高，可是 Firefox 不是 Apache － 目標客群根本不同。
  • 我想「a Better browser」應該是正確的，推廣需要長期經營，而不是只追求「很多次的短期爆發」，因為我們沒有力氣讓他爆發那麼多次。
  • Firefox 年底挑戰 20% 底有沒有可能？
    • 誰的數據才算數？
      • 即便是入口網站的數據也不可信，因為我一個月去 Yahoo!Kimo 的次數，可能是零。
    • 有意義嗎？
      • 對網頁設計師而言，有：這是一個學習 Web Standards 的壓力
        • 所以不支援 Firefox 的網站會越來越少，這或許是對一般使用者有意義的地方。
        • Bart: "Firefox is our most important weapon in our drive to spread Gecko user agent strings, which is a key condition of success for the Mozilla Foundation. We are about preserving standards, choice and innovation on the web. In order to achieve this mission, we must have a critical mass of users, so that web developers will build web sites to standards, not to a specific browser."
          • 「Firefox 是我們散佈 Gecko useragent string 的重要武器。Mozilla Foundation 目的是在網路上維護標準、提供選擇、持續創新，要達到這個目標便得有大量的擁護者，才能促使網頁設計師遵照標準寫網頁。」
      • 對技術人員，或許有自爽的意義吧。
    • 「廣告的成效其實無法估計 － 你知道有用，可是難以知道多有用。」
• Marketing-Public RE: An article against Firefox
  • "一般連瀏覽器是什麼也不曉得的人，都很依賴其他所謂的電腦高手。就這一點看來，我們想說服的潛在 Firefox 使用者都知道什麼叫瀏覽器。至於不知道的人，我們可藉別的使用者協助推廣。" 很有道理，不過我想還是可以多少花點力氣向 End User 推廣 － 電腦高手的交際圈通常沒有三姑六婆來得廣。 (ㄜ，會不會被人家說有性別歧視？其實我不知道有沒有更好的詞 T_T 請不要幫我戴帽子...)
• Marketing-Public First thoughts: "I don't think putting out T-Shirts making fun of IE or pointing out it's bad points will do us any good. Remember, the people we try to market Mozilla to use IE. It's not a good start into a conversation to make that look bad. That would be like a car merchant from another brand than you use starts by making your own brand bad. What would you think ? I know that I would think that he has to make other's bad to look himself look good. I would walk away."
  • 「我不認為在 T-shirt 上開 IE 的玩笑或是列出它的缺點有什麼好處。請記住，我們要那些目前使用 IE 的人改用 Mozilla，說話可不希望給人壞印象。好比說買車時業務員首先說你車的牌子爛，那你作何感想？我自己會認為他只能以貶低別人的方式提昇自己，就不會理他。」
  • 雖然這個說詞有些人可能覺得不夠好，不過我就是這麼認為，就像我討厭政客批來評去的狀況一樣。我也看不出來放棄這個原則有什麼好處－短期好處或許可以多爭一點目光，可是行銷是要看長期的品牌營造，太過心急只會毀掉。
  • RE: First thoughts: "I totally agree. This should be a guideline in the Mozilla marketing campaign strategy. There are a lot of people who trust IE for all their web access needs. For sure it gets the job done, so there is no way anybody can tell them it is bad because first of all it isn't. The point is that it is not as good as Mozilla."
    • 「我完全同意，這一點應該列為各項 Mozilla 行銷策略的準則。很多人相信 IE 已經符合他們上網所需了，可以好好地運作。你很難讓他們相信 IE 有多爛，因為他們從來不這麼認為。所以重點只是『IE 沒有 Mozilla 這麼好』。」
• Marketing Firefox:
  • 定「佔有率」其實有時是種努力的目標，光從這點上來說可能就有意義。
  • "To build a strong brand identity for Firefox." 所以必須採取一定程度的保護措施。
  • "We must offer tools and resources to support our users in spreading the word about Firefox." photos.moztw.org 只做到「蒐集」，怎麼才能確保 it works?
  • "Community marketing is our unfair advantage." 真正要靈活運用才是難事。身為「最接近一般使用者的自由軟體」，我想這個社群的操作模式不該與 Linux 等社群相同 。（這是我個人的想法，畢竟沒參加過其他社群，講的話也不太能算數。）
    • 其實我本身不太關心自由軟體，縱使我知道 Firefox 能如此傑出，得拜 Open Source（跟「自由」的號召力）所賜，也還是沒辦法說服自己關心自由軟體。這可能是好事：這方面我就是一般使用者，那麼我該能瞭解他們。
  • "Crediting our volunteers: crediting the Firefox marketing volunteers, and anyone who makes a contribution to Mozilla, is critically important."
    • 「表揚義工：表揚行銷義工和對 Mozilla 有貢獻者，這非常重要。」
    • 感謝是應該的，不過這樣可讓人更倍感光榮。「You're one of us.」
• Comment on "Firefox Accessibility": "Firefox is not suitable for everyone, and it is important to offer other choices. Opera is actually a very good browser, so you didn't need to defend your decision so much. In fact, many of the developers that work on Opera, (most notably Ian Hickson) also work on Firefox as well, so even though they are different companies, and seperate products, they support each other, and promote free choice, unlike Microsoft that tries to promote it's products for everyone"
  • 「Firefox 不見得適合每個人，況且『提供其他選擇』也是個重點。Opera 是很棒的瀏覽器...」、「...事實上很多 Opera 的開發員（像是 Ian Hickson）也同樣為 Firefox 工作，其他公司也常有這樣的人。他們互助合作，推廣自由選擇的理念...」
  • 按：Ian Hickson 目前在 W3C 中制訂 CSS 標準，常可在 Bugzilla 中關於 CSS 的討論串看到他的意見。
  • 很好的論點，唉這樣我會怨嘆我有這樣的想法，但怎麼都說不出這樣有條理的話。我想重點不是口才不好，而是我對 mozilla.org 的運作還沒有通盤瞭解，在一些大眾議題上也算生手。
  • 自由選擇似乎在商業利益上有所衝突？或許找找資料。

• GNOME integration does not work properly with Fedora Core 3. Users of Fedora Core 3 will need to download and install <a href="http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/linc-1.0.3-3.1.i386.rpm">linc-1.0.3-3.1.i386.rpm</a>. After installing the RPM, perform the following command in the directory you installed Firefox into (you will need write permission):

  touch .autoreg

  The next time you start Firefox, GNOME integration should be functional.

Web Page Rendering

• Firefox is powered by the same Gecko layout engine as other Mozilla software. If you encounter a problem with a website that does not correctly display then it is usually a problem with Gecko, not Firefox itself. Such problems should be reported in the Browser product (not the Firefox product) in <a href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/">Bugzilla</a>. If you are technically minded, try and create a reduced test case and this will help get your bug more attention.

The Configuration Console (accessed by entering "about:config" in the Location bar and pressing Enter) gives advanced/experienced users direct control over Firefox's preferences. This system is for use by people who know what they are doing only, by changing a value incorrectly you may damage or destroy your Firefox installation! Look to Help sites for handy preferences to tweak to customize Firefox further.

<a name="troubleshooting">Troubleshooting</a>

• It should not be necessary to create a new profile when you upgrade from a previous version of Firefox providing you do disable all extensions from the prior version before upgrading. To do this, open the old version and open Tools > Options and click the Extensions panel. Click on each of the extensions listed and choose Disable Extension. Click OK to close the Options window. Now it is safe to install Firefox.
• 若您在昇級瀏覽器前，先停用先前版本瀏覽器中的擴充套件，那麼在昇級瀏覽器時便不需要建立新的profile。您在停用擴充套件時，先開啟舊版本的瀏覽器，點選工具列上的工具然後點選擴充套件。在列出來的擴充套件上按右鍵，然後選停用。現在您可以放心的安裝新版本的Firefox了。

• Poorly designed or incompatible Extensions can cause problems with your browser, including make it crash, slow down page display, etc. If you encounter strange problems relating to parts of the browser no longer working, the browser not starting, windows with strange or distorted appearance, degraded performance, etc, you may be suffering from Extension or Theme trouble. Restart the browser in Safe Mode. On Windows, start using the "Safe Mode" shortcut created in your Start menu or by running firefox.exe -safe-mode. On Linux, start with ./firefox -safe-mode and on MacOS X, run:

  cd /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/
./firefox-bin -safe-mode

  When started in Safe Mode all extensions are disabled and the Default theme is used. Disable the Extension/Theme that is causing trouble and then start normally.

• 不良的套件設計或不相容的套件將導致瀏覽器發生問題，發生的問題包含當機或網頁瀏覽速度變慢等等。如果您遇到瀏覽器無法開啟、視窗顯示不正常等等奇怪的問題，您可能是遇到擴充套件或佈景主題的問題。將瀏覽器重新啟動在安全模式。在Windows下用"Safe Mode"捷徑或在命令列下firefox.exe -safe-mode指令。在Linux下執行./firefox -safe-mode指令。在MacOS X下

  cd /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/
./firefox-bin -safe-mode

  當啟動安全模式時，所有的擴充套件將停止使用，並使用預設的佈景主題。在安全模式下移除有問題的擴充套件/佈景主題，然後再正常的啟動瀏覽器。
